Around the room.
White haired folks
Tapping toes,
Snapping fingers,
Accompanied by harmonies,
Laughter, and applause.
Smiles and songs are contagious.
Popcorn and angel food cake,
Pies and sandwiches,
Red wine and lemonade
Are served with
Old country songs,
Latin rhythms,
Show tunes,
Jazz improvisations.
Solos, sing-alongs,
Syncopation and melody
Fill the air,
Reminders of bittersweet youth.
Lights dim,
Candles flicker,
Glasses sparkle,
And the old house
Shivers with joy.
